You would end up spending more money than if you just bought a car. There are certain requirements about passenger protection, type, number, purpose and positioning of lights, suspension, brakes, emissions, the list goes on and on…

  2. UCANTCME says:

This is what you will need to have and inspected for since it has 4 wheels but it still would not be allowed…..

    6. Brakes (system) (Parking – beginning with 1960 models)
    7. Tires
    8. Wheel Assembly
    9. Exhaust System
    10. Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models)
    11. Beam Indicator (beginning with 1948 models)
    12. Tail Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
    13. Stop Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier

you would get run over to low there is a ride hight requirement for road worthy vehicles and all the other stuff needed lights directionals etc buy a car its cheaper and safer if a car ran you over it would crush you

  5. Fred C says:

You would have to make it conform to all the same specifications that a car does, windshield with wipers, upgraded brakes, wheels, tires, bumper height and energy absorption, lighting including brakes, signals, high-low aimable headlamps, speedometer, headrest, seat belts, frame, mirrors, crumple zones, fuel system integrity including road-worthy safety gas tank, battery mount, alignable front end, suspension, etc.
You can buy a used car for $500 with all that, why would you want to try to make an off-road vehicle street legal when it is virtually impossible and would cost countless thousands of dollars?
Why would you even want to try to drive a vehicle that can be squashed like a bug by any vehicle larger than a Smart Car?

  6. CwboyBill says:

Sure. You’ll need to add lights, (headlight, tail/stop lamps and turn lamps), windshield, windshield wipers, bumpers (16″ high), horn, seat belts, and probably about a thousand other things not to mention the hassle of actually attempting to get a tag with no 17 digit VIN or title.
    Ugh….
